Project Description:

In September 2023, The City of Calabasas broke ground on the City-Wide Green Street Project- Phase I. The project site stretches from the north of Mont Calabasas Rd to the terminus of Las Virgenes Rd. This project will enhance the west side of Las Virgenes Road by establishing parking lots and incorporating environmentally friendly green infrastructure. Key improvements included the construction of vegetated swales, stormwater treatment systems, and measures to manage storm runoff overflow. A new multipurpose trail was built to connect to the existing network of trails of the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon trail network to Las Virgenes Road. Planting native trees along the project area enhances air quality and mitigates the urban heat island effect. Trees also provide habitat for local wildlife. Once fully grown, the trees will provide shade for users of the area. Additionally, the project improved pedestrian safety by constructing concrete sidewalks, mid-block crossings, and developing an ADA compliant parking lot and trail access.

The project was completed in three phases to accommodate residential parking throughout the entire duration of the project. Construction was completed November 15, 2024.
