City of Calabasas Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) 

The State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) adopted Order Number 2006-0003-DWQ, the Sanitary Sewer Systems Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs), which requires all federal and state agencies, municipalities, counties, districts and other public entities that own or operate a wastewater collection system greater than one mile in length to develop and implement a system specific Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP). The SSMP documents how an agency manages its wastewater collection system.

SSMP provides a set of regulations that help reduce unintentional release of raw sewage before it is treated; this is known as a sanitary sewage overflow (SSO). SSOs can contaminate our waters, causing serious water quality problems, and back-up into homes, causing property damage and threatening public health. Common causes of SSOs are blockages, tree roots, land movement and damaged infrastructure.
