Calabasas Mountains

We are fortunate to call Calabasas home, a community nestled in the scenic Santa Monica Mountains and surrounded by abundant open space. This natural setting is one of our city’s greatest treasures, offering residents both beauty and a deep connection to nature.

Living in such close proximity to nature comes the possibility of encounters with local wildlife, including coyotes, bobcats, deer, and hawks. These encounters remind us of the unique environment we live in and the responsibility we share to coexist safely and respectfully with the animals that call Calabasas home.

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation AreaThis webpage provides guidance on living safely alongside wildlife. Detailed information about coyotes in Calabasas, including their habits, behavior, how to minimize conflicts, and steps to report coyote sightings and encounters to LA County Agricultural Commissioner /Weights and Measures are listed below. In addition, this page serves as a resource for reporting deceased or distressed animals to LA County Animal Care & Control, helping our community protect both residents and local wildlife.

We encourage all residents to stay informed and engaged in protecting our shared environment
