The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
Initial CERT training is offered free of charge to all community members. The City offers additional training (such as CPR and First Aid) for CERT trained Calabasas residents.
CERT is a volunteer group of trained citizens committed to remaining ready to assist local government, public safety agencies, and each other at all times. CERT volunteers have no obligation or commitment to respond or act in the event of a disaster. CERT receives funding from the City of Calabasas and training from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and is administered by the City. CERT assists in both emergency and non-emergency situations by:
- Promoting emergency safety for all community members to be prepared to care for their families and themselves.
- Providing assistance for community events.
- Providing communications to the City in times of emergency and non-emergency.
The City of Calabasas strives to educate and train CERT volunteers and to make the community safer, stronger and better prepared in the face of disasters of all kinds.
- Earthquake Preparedness & Response
- Fire Suppression Training
- Medical Operations
- Light Search & Rescue
- Disaster Psychology
- And much more!
Taught by the LA County Fire Department
The City of Calabasas also has a Calabasas Emergency Response Program (CERP) Radio Team. To become a member of the CERP Radio Team, you need to be CERT trained & FCC licensed. The CERP Radio Team tests the city’s amateur radio (ham) system on a weekly basis. During an emergency, neighborhood information/status reports would be forwarded to the City's Emergency Operations Center.
Would You Like to Be CERT Trained or Join the CERP Radio Team?
CERT’s goal is to gain and train knowledgeable members in earthquake preparedness, basic disaster skills, First Aid and hands-only CPR, light search & rescue, fire suppression, and safety assessment. CERP’s goal is to support emergency radio communications between the community and the city. We need your help! Professional training provided for all new members.
I’m interested in the CERT and/or CERP program. Please tell me more!
