TURF GRASS

The City of Calabasas installs Bermuda grass at the Bark Park in order to withstand heavy use by both two-legged and four-legged park users. Bermuda grass is a warm season/ perennial grass that adapts well as Calabasas temperatures rise in the spring and summer (and when park usage is at its peak!) As a proactive measure, the Bermuda grass is taken offline during dormancy (winter months) to prevent damage to the rooting system. Additionally, the area is closed Monday to Thursday to allow for maintenance and repair and to keep the Bermuda grass naturally healthy.

OPERATING HOURS:

The Creekside property is home to the Calabasas Klubhouse Preschool, which means its hours of operation are divided between school use and public park use. In accordance with Ordinance No. 2024-405 (8.24.040), public access to the park is not permitted during school hours. However, community members are welcome to enjoy the fields and playgrounds during designated park hours when school is not in session!

PARK HOURS

Freedom Park is located within the gated community of Braewood. It is a public park and open to anyone during daylight hours.

January – March 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM

April – August 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM

September – December 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Patrons visiting the park from outside of the community may enter via the pedestrian gate located at the corner of Mulholland Hwy and Parched Dr. Elderly and disabled persons needing to drive to the park may contact the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center at 818-222-2782 for a vehicular gate access code. If the vehicular or pedestrian gate is locked or if the gate is inoperable during park hours, please call 818-225-0813 to request park access.

MULTI-USE SPORT COURT

Renovated in Spring 2024, the Multi-Use Sport Court at De Anza Park now features state-of-the-art hockey dasher boards, adjustable basketball hoops, and designated play areas for pickleball, basketball, and roller hockey! DRESS CODE FOR ATHLETIC PLAY

Proper athletic attire is required for use of the facility:

Shirts, bottoms, and shoes must be worn at all times.
Closed-toe, closed-heel athletic shoes are required for all non-skating sports.
Clothing must not display profanity or offensive material.
Hockey players must wear protective gear, including helmets, shin guards, elbow pads, and knee pads.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy occasional recreational use of fields and courts at City of Calabasas parks. However, recurring activities, organized gatherings, team practices, and games require a permit in accordance with City of Calabasas Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-405.

The Multi-use Sport Court at Juan Bautista de Anza Park operates on a rotating schedule to accommodate various activities.

ORGANIZED SPORTS & PRIVATE INSTRUCTORS

The City of Calabasas requires prior authorization to use a City park or facility for the purpose of:

Gatherings of 25 or more people, regardless of age
Recurring activities, gatherings, team practices, or games
Private instruction such as sports and fitness lessons, dog training, tennis lessons, yoga, and day camps

Regulatory laws are in place to minimize liability exposure, protect taxpayer assets, maintain accessibility for general use, and prevent commercial use of publicly funded properties.
