FIRST CERT HYBRID TRAINING: A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!

We’re thrilled to share that the City of Calabasas recently hosted its inaugural CERT Hybrid Training, conducted in partnership with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD).

The program began with self-paced online instruction through the California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI) and concluded with an intensive, two-day, in-person training session.

We’re proud to announce that 17 participants graduated from the program!

LACoFD’s hands-on CERT curriculum covered a wide range of essential disaster preparedness skills.

During the in-person session, participants trained directly with dedicated first responders, practicing:

  • Fire safety and suppression – including hazard assessment and proper use of fire extinguishers
  • Disaster medical operations – from triage and head-to-toe assessments to treating burns, wounds, fractures, sprains, and heat/cold-related injuries
  • Light search and rescue – focusing on rescuer safety, victim removal, and safety protocols
  • Team organization and the Incident Command System (ICS) – including role coordination, documentation, and chain of command in emergencies
  • Disaster psychology – emphasizing responder well-being and emotional support techniques for survivors
  • Simulated disaster drills – applying all skills in realistic exercises and tabletop scenarios

Congratulations to all of our CERT Class graduates for leading the way in community resilience and emergency preparedness!

We look forward to expanding this program and empowering even more community members to become confident, capable CERT team members.

BE PREPARED FOR POWER SHUTOFFS DURING HIGH FIRE RISK EVENTS

During high fire danger conditions—such as strong winds, extreme heat, or low humidity—Southern California Edison (SCE) may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) to reduce the risk of wildfires.

During a PSPS event, SCE may proactively shut off power to certain circuits in areas deemed at risk. Power will stay off until weather conditions improve and crews can safely inspect and restore lines.

Advance Notification Is Key. SCE aims to notify affected customers:

  • 48 hours before a potential shutoff

  • 24 hours before the power is turned off

However, you must be signed up for alerts to receive these notifications. Calabasas residents are strongly encouraged to register or update their preferences at: www.scepsps.com

You can choose to be alerted by text, phone, or email.

During an event, check the latest outage updates here:
www.sce.com/outages-safety/outage-center/check-outage-status

To learn how to prepare for power shutoffs, visit:
www.sce.com/psps

Stay informed. Stay safe. Be ready.
