CELEBRATE JULY 4TH SAFELY
As we gear up for Independence Day, the City of Calabasas reminds residents that all fireworks, including sparklers, and “safe and sane” varieties are illegal within city limits. This law protects our community from wildfires, serious injuries, and property damage.
According to the L.A. County Fire Department, fireworks start thousands of fires and send over 11,000 people to emergency rooms each year. Even sparklers burn at 1,200°F, hot enough to cause third-degree burns.
Authorities including the National Fire Protection Association, National Safety Council, Wildfire LA, and the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department strongly discourage the use of fireworks in high-risk wildfire zones like Calabasas. With ongoing drought conditions and dense vegetation, just one spark can lead to a devastating wildfire.
Celebrate safely and responsibly by attending a professional fireworks or drone show instead.

CALABASAS COMMUNITY HEAT SAFETY REMINDER
As summer temperatures rise in Calabasas, your health and safety come first. It's important to stay informed and take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses to protect yourself and loved ones. Know the signs: heat exhaustion can cause heavy sweating, dizziness, and nausea, while heat stroke is a medical emergency marked by confusion, high body temperature, and unconsciousness. If someone shows symptoms, act fast call 911 and cool them down immediately.
Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable individuals in a parked vehicle, not even for a minute. Remember to Stop. Look. Lock. A vehicle can become deadly in just minutes. According to the National Weather Service, 39 children died in hot cars in 2024. Always lock your car and keep keys out of reach to prevent curious kids from climbing inside. Children can easily wander into unsafe spaces unnoticed. If a child is missing, search your pool and vehicle, including the trunk, as time is critical
Heat can quickly make you ill and certain groups are especially vulnerable during heat waves: young children and infants, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and pregnant women. Please check in on friends, family, and neighbors, especially those without air conditioning or who live alone.
Before heading outdoors, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.). Find more safety tips and resources from trusted partners like the L.A. County Fire Department, L.A. County Department of Public Health, and the National Weather Service.
Let’s keep Calabasas safe and cool this summer; Stop. Look. Lock.
