2025 HOMELESS COUNT

COUNT

Due to recent wildfires, the 2025 Homeless Count for Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills and Westlake Village will occur on February 18-20, with the area’s main deployment site being the Calabasas Senior Center. Like prior years, the event involves pairing up with 2 or 3 individuals to canvas certain areas of the community via car to visually report on sightings of homeless individuals or encampments. The total time commitment for the evening is approximately 3 hours.

An overview of the Homeless Count page can be viewed at: https://count.lahsa.org, while those looking to volunteer at the Calabasas Senior Center can do so on the deployment site’s dedicated page.

PROTECTING YOUR HEALTH AFTER A WILDFIRE

After a wildfire, it's important to take precautions to protect your health and well-being. Here's how to stay safe in burn areas:

Air Quality: Check local air quality reports before spending time outdoors. Wear an N95 mask when air quality is poor and use air purifiers indoors to reduce harmful particles.

Soil Safety: Avoid direct contact with ash and charred debris, which may contain hazardous materials. Use gloves, long sleeves and pants when handling soil, and avoid disturbing ash to prevent it from becoming airborne.

Water Safety: Ensure your drinking water is safe by following local advisories. In areas affected by ash runoff, avoid using private wells until they are tested and cleared for safe use.

Safe Cleanup Practices: Wear protective clothing, including gloves, goggles and sturdy shoes, when cleaning up. Keep children and pets away from debris and ash. Use wet mopping or vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters to clean surfaces rather than sweeping or dry dusting.

Visit the Department of Public Health website or YouTube channel for additional information.
