HOLIDAY COOKING SAFETY REMINDER
As the holiday season approaches, the City of Calabasas is reminding residents to use extra caution in the kitchen. Unattended cooking remains the leading cause of home fires and fire-related injuries, and most incidents are preventable with simple safety steps.
Residents are encouraged to stay in the kitchen when frying, boiling or broiling food, keep flammable items away from the stove and heat oil slowly to avoid flare-ups. Grease fires should never be extinguished with water; instead, smother the flames with a lid and turn off the burner. For oven fires, turn off the heat and keep the door closed.
If a fire becomes unsafe to control, leave immediately, close the door behind you and call 9-1-1 from outside.
These precautions can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday season for all.

AGOURA ROAD TO CLOSE FOR FINAL STAGE OF WILDLIFE CROSSING CONSTRUCTION
Major progress continues on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing project. With the completion of Phase 1, construction has now entered Phase 2.
Beginning October 2025 through June 2026, Agoura Road will be fully closed on weekdays to all through traffic. Only local residents will be allowed access. Motorists will be detoured via U.S. 101 between Chesebro Road and Liberty Canyon Road.
A shuttle for pedestrians and cyclists will be available on weekdays, and temporary bus stop relocations will be announced.
This $92 million project aims to protect wildlife, reconnect habitats, and restore biodiversity across the 101 Freeway.
⚠️ Expect delays, follow detour signs, and plan ahead.

HOLIDAY SAFETY TIPS FOR A SAFE SEASON
The holiday season brings festive lights, decorated trees and warm celebrations — but it also increases the risk of home fires. The Los Angeles County Fire Department is reminding residents to take simple precautions to keep their homes and families safe during the holidays.
Homeowners are encouraged to inspect holiday lights for damage, avoid linking too many strands together and never leave lights unattended. Only flame-retardant or nonflammable decorations should be used, and candles should be placed in sturdy holders and kept away from anything that can burn. For those purchasing a real tree, checking for freshness and keeping it well-watered can significantly reduce fire hazards.

BATTERY RECYCLING PROGRAM RE-ENERGIZED
Batteries contain hazardous materials and improper disposal can lead to fires, soil contamination, and water pollution. The City of Calabasas would like to invite you to participate in our re-energized Battery Recycling Program by disposing of your household batteries properly. New collection bins are conveniently located throughout the City.
Visit the Battery Recycling Program webpage for more information on battery recycling locations and ways to help protect our environment.
Calabasas residents can pick up free battery collection boxes at the Building & Safety Counter in City Hall (Mon–Thurs 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Fri 7:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m.). No appointment is needed, but if you’d like to schedule a pickup, contact Environmental Management Analyst Melanis Stepanian at mstepanian@cityofcalabasas.com.
Once you have your box, simply collect your batteries inside, tape both ends to ensure safety, and when the box is full, empty the batteries into a collection bin for proper disposal.
