2026 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION

NOVEMBER 3, 2026

 

ELECTION INFORMATION:

The 2026 General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.  The City of Calabasas has three City Council seats open, each for 4-year terms of office and approved one Open Space Ballot Measure to be placed on the ballot.

As of the close of the Nomination Period Deadline on August 7, 2026, the only the three incumbents 

REGISTER TO VOTE:

Voters can verify if they are registered to vote in Los Angeles County as follows:

The last day to register to vote is Monday, October 19, 2026.

VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS:

All registered voters in Los Angeles County will receive a Vote by Mail ballot no later than 29 days prior to Election Day.  Los Angeles County vote by mail period is Monday, October 5, 2026, through Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

HOW TO RETURN YOUR BALLOT:

There are multiple options to return your ballot:

Your ballot must be postmarked by Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to be counted.  If your valid postmarked ballot is received within 7 days (Election Code Section 3020(b)) it will be processed.

VOTE CENTERS / BALLOT DROP BOX LOCATIONS:

The City of Calabasas has several local options to return ballots.

  • Vote Centers: 
    • Calabasas Community Center: 4-Day Vote Center
      • 27040 Malibu Hills Road, Calabasas, CA 91301
        • Saturday, October 31, 2026 through Monday, November 2, 2026: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
        • Tuesday, November 3, 2026 (Election Day): 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
    • Founder's Hall: 11-Day Vote Center         
      • 200 Civic Center Way, Calabasas, CA 91302 
        • Saturday, October 24, 2026, through Monday, November 2, 2026:  10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. 
        • Tuesday, November 3, 2026 (Election Day): 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Ballot Drop Box:  Available 24-hours a day
    • Location:  100 Civic Center Way, Calabasas, CA 91302 (in front of City Hall / Library)

Ballots may be returned at any L.A. County Vote Center or Ballot Drop Box.  Dates, times and locations vary - please see the Los Angeles County Elections page for additional information.

TRACK YOUR BALLOT:

Voters can receive automated messages regarding your Vote by Mail Ballot by subscribing to Where's My Ballot.  This is a free service available to all registered voters that provides updated information on when you can expect to receive your ballot, where your ballot is, and when it has been processed, verified, and/or counted.

For questions regarding your ballot, please call the Los Angeles County Elections Division at (800) 815-2666.

ELECTION RESULTS:

Election results are not final on Election Night.  Ballot counting and verification continues throughout the official canvass period.  The following ballots may still be processed and counted after Election Day:

  • Vote by Mail Ballots returned and postmarked by Election Day and received within (7) days of Election Day
  • Conditional Voter Registration (same-day registration) ballots
  • Provisional ballots
  • Ballots requiring additional review or verification

As ballots are processed and verified, results will be updated accordingly to the Los Angeles County post-Election Day reporting schedule.  Live results can be viewed here.

CANDIDATE AND QUALIFICATION INFORMATION

Potential candidates for the City of Calabasas City Council may pull papers to qualify for one of the three open seats.  Please review the Guidelines to Issue Nomination Documents for additional information.

 CANDIDATE NOMINATION PERIOD:

The Nomination Period for the November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election is July 13, 2026, through August 7, 2026 (per Election Code Sections 10220 and 10224).  Any registered voter that is interested in running for City Council can make an appointment with the City Clerk to pull Nomination Papers.  All required paperwork must be submitted during the nomination period and verified by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.

If an incumbent does not run for office, the nomination period is automatically extended from August 7, 2026, through August 12, 2026 (per Election Code Section 10225).

ELIGIBILITY TO RUN FOR OFFICE:

To be eligible to run for City Council, a candidate must be:

  • 18 years old
  • A citizen of the United States, 
  • A resident of the City of Calabasas
  • Registered to vote at the time nomination papers are issued

APPOINTMENTS:

Appointments to pull and return Nomination Papers can be made with City Clerk Kristy Buxkemper at (818) 224-1662 or by emailing kbuxkemper@cityofcalabasas.com.  Candidates are encouraged to turn in nomination papers early in the process so there is ample time to verify and confirm qualification.

2026 CANDIDATE CAMPAIGN FORMS:

Candidate handbooks are distributed to prospective candidates in-person at the nomination appointment.
