City Council to Consider Cancellation of November Election
The City of Calabasas will consider cancellation of its November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election at a special meeting on August 19, 2026 at 10:00am.
The nomination period ran from July 13th through August 7th. Three candidates qualified for the three available City Council seats, with all three being current incumbent Councilmembers. Under the California Elections Code, a municipal election may be cancelled when the number of qualified candidates does not exceed the number of available seats and there are no measures remaining on the ballot.
At its August 10th special meeting, the City Council voted to withdraw the previously approved Open Space Protection Measure from the November ballot. With no measures remaining on the ballot and three qualified candidates for three available seats, the City may now consider cancelling the November election, as permitted by state law. In compliance with State Election Code, the City will publish a Statement of Facts and Notice of Insufficient Candidates before the City Council considers final action.
The City Council will hold a special meeting on August 19th to consider appointing the three qualified candidates to the available seats and cancelling the November election. If appointed, the Councilmembers would serve full four-year terms, the same as if they had been elected by voters in the November election. Open Space Protection remains a priority for the City Council and staff. The City plans to return an Open Space Protection measure to the ballot in 2028. In the meantime, the City will consider appropriate measures to maintain open space protections in Calabasas. For additional information and updates, visit the City’s Elections webpage.
Calabasas Listening Lounge on August 18th
Celebrate local creativity at the Listening Lounge / Open Mic on Tuesday, August 18th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Civic Center Amphitheater. Poets, storytellers, and musicians of all experience levels are invited to take the stage, or simply come enjoy an evening of local talent in a welcoming community atmosphere. Stay Safe During the Summer Heat
As temperatures rise, it's important to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, especially for children and older adults, who are most vulnerable. The Los Angeles County Fire Department recommends drinking plenty of fluids—including fruit juice or sports drinks to replace electrolytes lost through sweating—wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and applying sunscreen when outdoors. Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day, seek air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, and plan outdoor activities for the cooler morning or evening hours. Don't forget to keep pets indoors and check in on family members, neighbors, and others who may be at greater risk. Public Transit Services
Although the seasonal Calabasas Beach Bus has ended for the year, residents and visitors can continue to take advantage of the City's year-round public transit services. Whether you're commuting, running errands, or traveling around town, Calabasas offers several convenient transportation options, including the free Line 1 Shuttle, weekday peak-hour shuttle routes, and the Calabasas Flyer, an on-demand shared rideshare service that connects riders to destinations throughout Calabasas and select nearby areas. Recent Community Events
On Sunday, August 2nd, Gold Rush Country brought the SunSets Summer Concert Series to life with an energetic performance featuring today's country hits, classic favorites, and crowd-pleasing musicianship. Families and friends gathered for a beautiful summer evening of free live music at the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center.

On August 11th, the City of Calabasas joined communities across the country in celebrating City Hall Selfie Day, encouraging residents and visitors to snap a selfie at City Hall and celebrate local government. See the reel of photos here!
On August 1st, the City of Calabasas hosted a CERT training class for local community members. A total of 10 community members graduated the class, making their respective communities more resilient and prepared for disasters.
