Events and Programs this Month
Sandy Fire Highlights Importance of Emergency Preparedness
Last week, the Sandy Fire spread rapidly through portions of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, prompting evacuation warnings and orders for nearby communities, including parts of Calabasas. While no structures within the City were impacted, the fire served as an important reminder of the need for year-round wildfire preparedness and staying informed during fire season. Challenging conditions caused by dry vegetation, gusty winds, steep terrain, and shifting winds made containment efforts difficult, though more than 1,000 firefighters and air support helped crews make significant progress. The City also thanks residents for taking evacuation warnings and emergency notifications seriously, and encourages the community to continue maintaining defensible space, reviewing emergency plans, and signing up for emergency notifications below.
