Events and Programs this Month

National Wildfire Awareness Month and International Firefighters’ Day
May marks National Wildfire Awareness Month, a timely reminder of the importance of preparation and prevention as we head into a hotter, drier season. Protecting our community from wildfire risk takes a shared effort, and one of the most effective tools we use is prescribed burning, which involves carefully planned and controlled fires that reduce excess vegetation and help prevent larger, more dangerous wildfires. Alongside these efforts, residents are encouraged to stay informed, create defensible space around their homes, and follow local fire safety guidelines so we can work together to keep our community as secure as possible.

In that same spirit of safety and service, May 4th is International Firefighters’ Day, a time to recognize and thank the brave men and women of the Los Angeles County Fire Department for their unwavering dedication to keeping Calabasas safe. Whether responding to emergencies, protecting lives and property, or supporting wildfire prevention efforts, their commitment to our community does not go unnoticed. We are grateful for their courage, professionalism, and the sacrifices they make each day on behalf of others.

The next e-Waste Collection will be held on Saturday, May 2nd from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Creekside Village (26521 Agoura Road, Albertson’s shopping center back parking lot). Accepted items include televisions, monitors, computers, printers, cell phones, cables, batteries, and other electronic accessories, while items such as appliances, light bulbs, and household fixtures will not be accepted. In addition, the Used Oil and Water-Based Paint Round-Up will take place on Saturday, May 9th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Calabasas City Hall (100 Civic Center Way). This free, drive-up event allows residents to safely recycle used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, latex paint, and car batteries. Open to Calabasas residents and neighboring communities, the program helps keep harmful materials out of landfills and storm drains while supporting a cleaner, healthier community.
