City of Calabasas Mayor's Weekly Newsletter

April 3, 2026 | Mayor James R. Bozajian

Post Date:04/03/2026 9:25 AM

April is an exciting month for Calabasas as we celebrate our 35th anniversary and continue to grow as a vibrant, connected community. This spring, there are many opportunities to enjoy local programs, support new businesses, and participate in activities that bring us together. I encourage everyone to explore what our City has to offer and to celebrate all that makes Calabasas a special place to live, work, and play.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CALABASAS!
April 5th marks the 35th anniversary of Calabasas’ incorporation. In a special election held on March 5, 1991, more than 90% of the electorate voted to create the City of Calabasas. In that same election, voters chose five individuals to lead the new city. On April 5th of that year, the first Calabasas City Council was sworn into office during a ceremony held at Calabasas High School.

Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a reminder that one of the leading causes of teen traffic fatalities is also entirely preventable. The City of Calabasas is proud to re-launch this impactful campaign for a second year, building on an idea brought forward by Calabasas High School students Lauren Weintraub and Isla Goldfarb. Developed in partnership with the City, the campaign has grown into a broader community effort focused on raising awareness and promoting safer driving habits. Stay tuned as we continue working together to drive change.

City Updates

Open House Signs
Did you know that open house signs and other temporary real estate signs are not allowed in the City’s public right-of-way? While commonly seen on sidewalks, parkways, streets, roundabouts, and medians, these placements are not permitted and can create safety hazards by blocking visibility, posing tripping risks, and interfering with emergency access. Signs may only be placed on the property being sold or leased, with up to two additional off-site signs on private property with the owner’s permission. To stay compliant, always secure permission before placing signs and promptly remove them after the open house. Following these simple guidelines helps keep our community safe, accessible, and free of unnecessary obstructions. Visit the City’s full ordinance details.
