In this week’s newsletter, you will find safety tips, ways to stay engaged in our community, and upcoming recreational and educational events.
Stay Aware and Stay Safe
Recent incidents in nearby shopping areas are a good reminder to stay aware and look out for one another while you are out in the community. Simple habits — like staying alert, walking confidently, trusting your instincts, and choosing well-lit, populated areas — can go a long way toward supporting personal safety.
If something does not feel right, move to a safe place and seek help. For additional tips and guidance, review the City’s “On the Street” personal safety recommendations. If you experience or witness an emergency, please call 911.
Taking a few thoughtful precautions can make a difference for your personal safety and peace of mind.
LA Makeover with California Native Plants
The Santa Monica Mountains Fund is seeking Los Angeles County homeowners interested in transforming traditional lawns into beautiful, climate-smart landscapes featuring California native plants. As part of the LA Makeover documentary project, selected participants will receive a no-cost, plant-based lawn transformation that highlights sustainable design, water conservation, and support for local wildlife.
Homes chosen for the project will be featured in the documentary, and require participation in filming and before-and-after photography. Residents with maintained lawns are encouraged to apply, though all eligible homeowners are welcome.
To learn more and apply, email lamakeover@samofund.org with:
- Photos or a short video of your lawn
- Your address
- Details about why you are interested in a lawn makeover
- The estimated size of your lawn

Connect with Calabasas — Right from Your Phone
Staying connected is an important part of building a strong community. The Connect with Calabasas app and web portal make it easy for residents to reach City staff and help keep our community running smoothly. With just a few taps, you can report non-emergency issues — like potholes, graffiti, noise concerns, or other issues — and those requests are routed directly to the right department for a quicker response. You can view nearby service requests and “vote up” ones you would like to see addressed sooner.
The app is also a great source of City news and information on services available to you.
To explore or submit a request, download the Connect with Calabasas app or visit the Connect with Calabasas web portal.

Every Story Counts at Your Library
This week, Californians are invited to share their stories about visiting and using their local libraries. From story time and research help to digital resources and everyday check-outs, public libraries play an essential role in communities — providing trusted information, welcoming spaces, and services for residents of all ages.
Take a moment to share how the library is part of your life and help highlight the many ways libraries support and connect our community. Whether you stop by the Calabasas Library in person, use online resources, ask questions, or attend programs, your experience matters.
Take the survey here by January 31.
