The beginning of the year offers a natural moment to pause, reflect, and reset, and I am grateful to be entering it alongside such an engaged community. This year is especially meaningful as Calabasas celebrates its 35^th anniversary as an incorporated city — a milestone that invites us to reflect on how far we have come and the community spirit that continues to shape who we are today.

To help celebrate our 35^th anniversary, we are seeking photos, documents, and other items relating to local history that we can share with the community.  If you have any such things — vintage photos, original real estate brochures, documents relating to commercial enterprises, etc. — please contact us at info@cityofcalabasas.com.  We would welcome any contributions you have to memorialize our great City’s past.

Looking ahead, the year to come will include important conversations, continued progress on City projects, and many opportunities to connect with one another through events, programs, and public outreach. Our City team will continue to focus on safety, sustainability, and fiscal responsibility.  I encourage you to stay involved, share your ideas, and participate in the moments that help make Calabasas such a special place to call home.

Christmas Tree Recycling
Waste Management will continue collecting live Christmas trees throughout the coming week. Before placing your tree out on your regularly scheduled collection day, please remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and tree stands. Trees taller than six feet should be cut into smaller sections to ensure proper collection.

Get Your 2026 Community Recycling Awareness Calendar Today
The City of Calabasas’ 2026 Annual Recycling Calendar is now available for pick-up at City Hall. Each year, these calendars feature original artwork created by local K–8 students as part of the City’s Recycling Drawing Contest, celebrating creativity while promoting recycling and environmental awareness. 

Calendars will also be distributed to participating K-8 schools, and plans are underway for a special recognition ceremony honoring the 14 students whose artwork was selected for the 2026 calendar.

Residents can view recycling calendars from previous years on-line. If you have questions or are interested in learning more about the program, please email info@cityofcalabasas.com.

E-Waste Collection – January 3
Thinking about doing some new year organization? The City, in partnership with California Recycles, offers free E-Waste collections on the first Saturday of the month at Creekside Village (Albertson’s Shopping Center, 26521 Agoura Road, back parking lot). Stop by January 3, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., to drop off items such as televisions, monitors, printers, cell phones, laptops, keyboards, servers, and other electronics.

Premier Recreation Brochure – Winter/Spring Edition
With winter underway and spring just around the corner, the City of Calabasas continues to provide educational and recreational programs for residents of all ages. The Premier Recreation Brochure – Winter/Spring Edition is available on-line and includes a variety of programs for a variety of interests — from fitness and enrichment to youth and family activities. I hope you find something new to enjoy!

Calabasas Flyer Weekend Transit Service
Through Friday, January 30, the City will expand itsMicrotransit Program from just the weekends to the entire week as a special holiday promotion. Riders who are not registered for the Calabasas Flyer Plus will be able to book same-day rides Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m.–5 p.m., and Saturday–Sunday 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Riders registered with Calabasas Flyer Plus will still be able to pre-book the day before, and will now be able to book a same-day ride. 

Start the New Year Prepared
As many of us reset, organize, and set intentions for the year ahead, it is a great time to refresh your household emergency plan. Take a few minutes to review your emergency contacts, update medical information, and make sure everyone in your household knows how to communicate and where to meet if an emergency occurs.

Now is also a good opportunity to check emergency supplies and your grab-and-go bag, replace expired items, and ensure you have essentials like water, flashlights, batteries, and medications on hand. 

Making emergency preparedness part of your new year routine helps keep your household ready, informed, and resilient all year long.
