Mayor Peter Kraut’s Letter to the Community

Post Date:10/17/2025 10:00 AM

This week is shaping up to be an exciting one in Calabasas, with the Pumpkin Festival, public meetings and community recognition events on the calendar. I enjoy staying engaged with events and discussions throughout our City, and I warmly invite you to join in whenever you can. Your participation and ideas play a vital role in keeping our community vibrant, connected and thriving.

Travel with the Calabasas Flyer
You may have noticed the Calabasas Flyer, our new origin-to-destination transit service, making stops around town. This service replaces the City’s Dial-a-Ride and Calabasas Microtransit programs, offering the same hours, fares and destinations with a more convenient booking experience. Rides cost just $2.50 within Calabasas or $4 outside City limits.

I encourage you to take advantage of this public transit option. Book your trip using the app or by phone, and enjoy a simple, reliable way to connect to shopping, medical appointments, restaurants, schools, jobs and more.

City Awarded Grants to Enhance Local Parks
Being mindful of our City’s budget, our staff continually seeks opportunities to fund important community projects while reducing the impact on the General Fund. I am pleased to share that the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District recently awarded the City two grants totaling approximately $500,000.

Funding will support shade structures, signage and fence updates at Wild Walnut Park, as well as fence replacement at Gates Canyon Park.

To help shape the Gates Canyon Park improvements, the City will host a community input session on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m. at the park. All are welcome to attend and share feedback.

Friends of the Library Annual Meeting — Oct. 21
Join the Friends of the Library for their Annual Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Calabasas Library, 200 Civic Center Way.

This meeting brings together library supporters, volunteers and community members and offers insights on how to become a member or officer, assist with the bookstore and participate in volunteer opportunities.

It’s a great opportunity to get more involved in supporting our local library and shaping its role in Calabasas.

City Council Meeting – Oct. 22
City Council meetings shape the laws, policies and key decisions that guide the City of Calabasas. Learn more about the City and make your voice heard by attending the next City Council meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m.

Have you ever wanted to speak your mind to the City Council directly? Anyone who wishes to address the City Council at any meeting is given three minutes to speak. We ask that you begin with your name and city of residence. If you would like to comment on an agenda item, your thoughts will be heard before a decision is made. In this way, policy is shaped by community input.

All meetings are open to the public, and agenda items are posted online at least 72 hours prior to the meeting. If you would like to speak on anything that is not on the agenda, as long as it is within the jurisdiction of the City Council, you will be heard, but according to state law, we cannot engage in discussion at that time. Often, our staff can assist you at the end of the meeting, or the City Council may place your concern on a future agenda for more discussion.

Celebrate Unity Day – Oct. 22
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, join the City of Calabasas and schools across the nation in recognizing Unity Day — a time to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

This national observance, led by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, reminds us that no child should ever experience bullying or feel left out.

Wear orange to show your support and stand united against bullying. You can help foster a culture of respect by encouraging children to speak up for one another, practicing empathy in daily interactions and creating spaces — at home, in school and throughout the community — where every voice feels safe, heard and valued.

Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate Calabasas.
