Proposal by Southern California
Edison to install 14 Data Collection Units(DCU’s)
throughout the City. The DCU’s would convey information
from existing natural gas meters to the Gas
Company. Information on the county wide project is
available at
www.socalgas.com/advanced. The
City was briefed on the project by Gas Company
representatives in late March 2012. No formal
application has been received by the City at this time.

In mid-March ,
2012, staff met with representatives of the LA-RICS (Los
Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System)
project. The LA-RICS system will provide a single
dedicated wireless communication network for government
agencies and first responders such as the Sheriff’s
Department, Police Departments, Fire Departments and
other safety personnel in the LA area (www.la-rics.org).
The first phase of the LA-RICS
project includes three locations within the City of
Calabasas: the Sheriff’s station on Agoura Road, the
fire station on Las Virgenes Road and the fire station
on Calabasas Road. While the exact size of individual
facilities may vary slightly, the LA-RICS
engineering/design team has determined that each
location will require an approximately 70-foot tall
monopole with 12 panel antennas and two microwave
dishes, as well as associated ground mounted equipment
cabinets and a backup power generator.
LA-RICS is currently in the process
of drafting environmental documents for CEQA and NEPA
and expects to have a draft environmental document
available for public review in the next few months, at
which time the City will have an opportunity to comment
on the environmental document.
