SCHOOL
BUS AND CITY PUBLIC TRANSIT PROGRAM
The City of Calabasas will no longer
subsidize the school bus program now that the two year pilot program is
over. However, staff has determined that the expansion of the City's
public transit program is warranted and more cost effective at providing
transportation services similar to those of the school bus program. To
continue with the success of the Pilot 2004-2006 City subsidized School Bus
Program the city will enhance its peak school hour public transportation
service (white shuttle) as needed. Starting in the 2006-2007 school
year the City's existing public transit program will implement the expansion
and enhancement required to continue the benefits of the school bus program.
The City's existing public transit program will have modified routes some of
which will begin earlier and serve more areas of the City. These
proposed services may be modified as needed and schedules are subject to
change. For routes and schedules, keep checking the City of Calabasas
website.
The City's free public transit shuttle
program began in 1997, providing public transportation 9white shuttle)
service with enhanced routes and times to serve the needs of the students.
Building upon the success of this program, shuttle service was expanded to
provide enhanced routes and times to serve the needs of the students at all
City of Calabasas public schools.
Although the City will no longer be
contracting with Durham for the City's supplemental and subsidized school
bus program, a partial bus pass subsidy will be proposed to City Council to
authorize a 50% reimbursement to any Calabasas resident who purchases an A.E.
Wright Middle School or A.C. Stelle Middle School bus pass through the
School District. To be eligible for the reimbursement a parent must
fill out a reimbursement application at Calabasas City Hall and attach a
copy of the bus pass purchase receipt. Upon approval of the
application, a check in an amount equal to 50% of the middle school bus pass
purchase will be mailed back to the applicant.
More details of the City's expanded public
transit program will become available once the program is finalized.
Program status updates will be posted on the City's website periodically.
