Calabasas to Hold Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Malibu Hills Road Green Street Project

The public is invited to join Calabasas Mayor Fred Gaines, his fellow Councilmembers, and other dignitaries on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at 26745 Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the recently completed Malibu Hills Road Green Street Project.

Features of the Malibu Hills Road Green Street Project include enhanced street drainage, improved water quality by filtering flows through bio-filtration soil media, visually appealing landscaping, a new median that improves traffic and pedestrian safety by reducing vehicular speed, and new native trees and shrubs that will enhance air quality. The additional landscaping will be irrigated by run-off and surface water that will be diverted into the median.

“I am very proud that Calabasas continues to be a leader in developing and implementing cutting edge environmental programs and facilities,” said Calabasas Mayor Gaines. “Here we have combined traffic safety, street beautification and water quality improvements all in one project.”

The project, financed under the Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006, is the first phase of the Citywide Green Streets Project which will provide five different streets throughout Calabasas with a variety of green street and low impact development improvements.
