BOOK OF THE MONTH: TIME AND AGAIN

Visit our library's newly reorganized Science Fiction and Fantasy section and step seamlessly from 2018 to 1970 to 1882 in Jack Finney's illustrated novel, Time and Again. No trite technological tropes or improbable magical powers here - just a well written, highly original adventure story.  This book is available at the Library.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY LIBRARIAN, BARBARA LOCKWOOD

Please join us on Thursday, February 15 at 5:00 p.m. for a “Happy Hour” as we honor all the volunteers who help us make the Library a wonderful community center. The event is sponsored by Harold Arkoff in honor of his wife, Helen, who was our very first in-house Library volunteer. Helen worked for us for many years, even before we became part of the city. She would process materials; covering, labeling and stamping books so they could be shelved. Helen passed away last year and we miss her bright smile and warm personality.

The library relies on volunteers to assist staff in running the Library. The Library Commission is a group of community members who set policies and review the budget for the Library. Teen volunteers help the librarian with the Summer Reading Program, Study Buddies, Peer Counseling, Love to Learn Tutoring, the Writer’s Corner, the Teen Library Council and the Virtual Reality programs. They also run the Fun Fair, an annual event for High School clubs. Pet Partners bring their dogs to the library every month to improve children’s literacy. The Friends of the Library raise funds and sponsor programs. The volunteers from the Historical Society helps Karilyn Steward plan and provide lectures at the Library. Charlotte Meyer created and ran a tech help program for students to help seniors with their computers and devices. Karyn Foley interviews authors for the CTV Author’s Night programs. And Nancy Faner has now taken over the job that Helen once did.

A big thank you goes out to all these volunteers. We hope to see you all that evening for food, drinks and celebration.
