PET PARTNERS READING PROGRAM

Is your child's reading going to the dogs? Let's hope so! Bring your new and emerging reader (grades K-3) to the Library on Saturday, December 2 to share in a unique reading program. Therapy dogs, trained through Pet Partners, will sit (or lie!) and listen while your child experiences the joy of reading aloud. Each child will have 15 minutes to read. Sign-ups begin at 11:00 a.m. and the program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

YOGA & YOU AT THE LIBRARY

De-stress on your lunch hour! Join us for a relaxing yoga session on Thursdays, December 14 and December 21 at noon. Wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat/large towel, and join our wonderful instructor Deanne Wenger, RYT at the Library! No experience is necessary and all are welcome. This program is free, however a valid library card is required to participate.

LIBRARY TIP OF THE MONTH: CLOUD LIBRARY E-BOOK APP ACTS AS YOUR LIBRARY CARD

Have you lost your library card or do you have trouble remembering to bring it with you? If you sign up for the Cloud Library e-book app your cell phone automatically becomes your library card. Right now, you can find it in the settings option on the app but soon it will be on the home page. You can scan the barcode on the self-check machine or at the scanner on the circulation desk to use it to check out books and other materials.

BOOK OF THE MONTH: THE DRIVER

The Driver by Hart Hanson is from the creator of the TV show Bones. It is a fast-paced and quirky book of crime fiction. Michael Skellig is a former Army Special Forces guy who has a limo company staffed with a band of wounded vets. The dialogue comes quick and you’ll want to cheer on the characters as they face life’s difficult situations and the inevitable bad guys. This is an exciting debut novel by this author. This book is available at the Library.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY LIBRARIAN, BARBARA LOCKWOOD

To encourage the use of our digital resources by students in the Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) we want every student to have a library card. Library staff applied for and received a Pacific Library Partnership (PLP) LSTA-funded grant for 2017/18 called the Student Success Initiative. The grant is to facilitate partnerships with local schools to create library cards for students. We applied as a pilot site and we are paired with a mentor library, Napa Public Library. The Napa Library has established a successful student library card program and will help us establish our program.

Another part of the grant assists the libraries involved to collectively share resources and lessons learned to support one another and improve upon this trend in the library and education community. We are also working with the LVUSD Library Media Specialist on the project and hope to provide all students with quick and easy access to our digital media and e-resources.
