Archaeological Investigations at the Ancient Port of Sinop, Turkey
By Dr. Owen Doonan, Professor of Art at CSU Northridge
Wednesday, March 13, 2013
6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Professor Doonan has led archaeological expeditions to Sinop, Turkey
since 1996. His team has documented nearly 400 sites there,
some as old as 10,000 years old. Sinop was the most strategic
port of the Black Sea. It controlled trade routes and military
access ever since its foundation as a Greek colony around 630 B.C.
Professor Doonan will speak on previous research in Sinop and on an
exciting new excavation in the heart of the ancient city, proposed
to start in the summer of 2013.
