Come Help Calabasas Celebrate City's 25th Anniversary and Grand Opening of Senior Center This Weekend!

Come help Calabasas celebrate its 25th anniversary this weekend in three days filled with excitement, history, music and celebration-including the Grand Opening of the newly constructed Calabasas Senior Center!

The fun and festivities get underway this Friday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Calabasas Library with the 25th Anniversary Reception, an evening of music and light refreshments. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the new Calabasas History Exhibit, "A Room with a City View" in the library, as well as meet with authors of historical hooks on Calabasas and the surrounding area. Books will be available to purchase and authors will be on hand to sign copies. The event is free, and no reservations are required.

This Saturday, June 25 kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with the official ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the Grand Opening of the Calabasas Senior Center. Everyone is welcome to help City leaders usher in a new era with the 9,500 square foot, Gold LEED building. Light refreshments and tours follow the ceremony while next door at the Calabasas Library, attendees can sign up for the Summer Reading Program and enjoy an interactive Hip Hop dance program for all ages. This event is also free, with no reservations required.

Also this Saturday, June 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m, local Scout troops will be on hand at the Civic Center to hold a Food and School Supply Drive benefitting the West Valley Food Pantry and schools in need. Remember to bring non-perishable food items and/or school supplies such as pencils, crayons, glue sticks, erasers, loose leaf paper, rulers, or three-ring binders. Everyone who makes a donation will receive a free collector's item 25th Anniversary pin. You can also make donations ahead of the event at boxes located at all City of Calabasas facilities!

This Saturday and Sunday, join former mayors and city historians on the Calabasas Jolly Trolley for a free tour of City landmarks and historical sites. From legendary frontier town of the Wild West to cinematic backdrop of Hollywood's finest movies and television shows, Calabasas has a rich and storied past-- and this is your chance to see where it all happened! A comprehensive 3 hour tour is still available Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (Sunday's comprehensive tour is sold out!), while a "family friendly" version of the tour leaves both Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and includes a walking tour of Old Town Calabasas. The tours are free, however reservations are required. Call 818-224-1600 for details and to reserve your seat today.

This Sunday, June 26 at 6:00 p.m. the City's birthday bash will come to a rocking conclusion with a 25th Anniversary Sun Sets Concert featuring the disco beat of the band "Boogie Nights" at Calabasas Lake. Admission is free. Visit www.cityofcalabasas.com/sunsets.html for details on parking, shuttles, seating and more.
