Fire Crews Mopping Up Calabasas Brushfire

The brushfire that scorched 516 acres in Calabasas is 80% contained, and fire crews are in the "mopping up" stage of the operation. All evacuated areas and all roads to all areas have been reopened with the exception of the Summit to Summit Motorway.

The Mountains Restoration Trust building near the corner of Mulholland Highway and Old Topanga Canyon Road was completely destroyed.

However, the nearby historic Masson house was untouched by the flames:

At Calabasas Klubhouse Preschool at Creekside Park, some roof overhangs were singed; a propane tank and storage sheds were destroyed. Some outdoor furniture under an oak tree on the campus was completely melted by the heat of the flames.

Aerial and ground crews miraculously managed to save the preschool, and even left the staff and students a kind note when they were done:

According to officials, one residence was damaged by fire retardant that was dropped by either a fire-fighting plane or helicopter.
