Las Virgenes Creek Restoration Project-Phase II Groundbreaking Ceremony this Wednesday, April 27 at 4PM!

Stop by Founders Hall at the Calabasas Library tonight to hear some of the City's founders share stories and memories of the incorporation of the City of Calabasas. Mayor Bozajian will serve as Moderator of the event.

The City of Calabasas is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for Las Virgenes Creek Restoration Project-Phase II this Wednesday, April 27 at 4 p.m. on Lost Hills Road and you're invited to join Calabasas City Council members and community leaders at this great event!

This project is a continuation of the City's efforts to restore Las Virgenes Creek and it will aid in the stream habitat restoration and fish barrier passage enhancement of Las Virgenes Creek. Along with the restoration of the creek, the project includes a trail system that will run along Las Virgenes Creek and will be a great boon towards the environmental stewardship of the Las Virgenes Creek and the entirety of the Malibu Creek Watershed.

When completed, this project will have restored a significant portion of the natural habitat of Las Virgenes Creek within the City of Calabasas. Besides the obvious benefits of providing habitat safe passage for local native wildlife, the restoration will reduce the effects of urbanization on the local hydrograph, providing for better management of the Malibu Creek and Las Virgenes Creek watersheds.

The City addressed the comments that were received from the public through workshops and incorporated them into the overall design. The project was presented and received support from the Environmental Commission and the Calabasas City Council. This project is being partially funded by DWR Urban Restoration Streams Program, Santa Monica Mountain Restoration Prop 84 Grant and the City of Calabasas General Fund.
