GATES CANYON PARK: REGIONAL STORMWATER PROJECT

The Gates Canyon Park Stormwater Project features the construction of new drainage infrastructure to capture and treat stormwater. The project will divert approximately 1,150,000 gallons of stormwater into a pre-treatment system before being conveyed to a cistern below Gates Canyon Park.

Water stored within the cistern will be further treated before used to irrigate the park or pumped into infiltration wells. With each new rain event, the cistern will be drained for groundwater recharge allowing for the capture and treatment of additional stormwater.

Community Benefits and Collaboration Opportunities:

• Improve stormwater quality;
• Expand water supply;
• Reduce use of potable water;
• Provide for a healthier environment;
• Up-to-date drainage infrastructure;
• Ensure sustainable environmental future.

There will be a public presentation to the Calabasas City Council on October 11, 2017 at 7:00 PM.

Interested individuals are invited to attend a public workshop on Thursday, November 2, 2017 between 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The community workshop will be held at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center located at 27040 Malibu Hills Road, Calabasas, CA 91301.

MALIBU HILLS STORMWATER ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

The City of Calabasas will soon begin the implementation of the Malibu Hills Stormwater Enhancement Project. This project will comply with the City’s Green Street Policy which requires any street re-development designs to include stormwater management techniques which use soil and vegetation to slow, filter, and cleanse runoff from impervious surfaces. This type of project has multiple benefits including improved air and water quality, increased road safety, and all the while beautifying the street.

The Malibu Hill Stormwater Enhancement Project will involve the construction of a center median on Malibu Hills Road. The median will be designed as bio-filtration system that will remove pollutants from incoming runoff using native engineered soil mass to clean out pollutants picked up by urban runoff and release a cleaner quality of water into our creeks and beaches. The City’s contractor will begin work around mid-October and will continue for four to six weeks. The project is being funded through the Department of Water resources Prop 84 Round 2 IRWM grant and the City’s annual NPDES budget. The City hopes to continue their efforts in improving stormwater management with other future projects.
