HERO SALE COMMUNITY YARD SALE TO
BENEFIT FIRE OPERATIONS ON SEPTEMBER 11 |

A
City-wide yard sale will be held on Saturday, September
11, 2010 at Calabasas City Hall, 100/200 Civic Center
Way in Calabasas (adjacent to the Commons) from 8:00a.m.
to 3:00p.m. The Hero Sale will feature arts,
crafts, delicious food, and many other yard-sale treasures for sale.
In the spirit of honoring those who were lost in the
line of duty on September 11, 2001, all proceeds from
this not-for-profit event will go to benefit Los Angeles
County Emergency Fire Operations. For more

PREMIERE PRODUCTION OF THE CALABASAS THEATRE COMPANY |
|
The
Calabasas Theatre Company, a new theatre group in
Calabasas, is presenting their premiere production in
September and October. Founded by the
Spotlight the Arts Foundation, the Calabasas Theatre
Company will present eight performances of
“Under Milk
Wood” by Dylan Thomas. The performances will be held at
the Calabasas Amphitheatre, 200 Civic Center Way (behind
the Calabasas Library).
A preview performance will be
held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 7:00p.m.
Regular performances will take place between September 19
and October 10. Performances will be
held at 8:00p.m. on Saturdays and at 4:00p.m. on Sundays
during that period.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for seniors and
students with ID. The production is directed by
Calabasas Theatre Company Artistic Director Geoffrey G.

2010 CALABASAS PUMPKIN FESTIVAL |
|
The
2010 Calabasas Pumpkin Festival,
presented by the City of Calabasas and the Calabasas
Chamber of Commerce, takes place over two days on
Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17, 2010 from
10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. at
Juan Bautista de Anza Park in Calabasas. Pre-sale
admission tickets for the festival will be available
between September 27 and October 11 for only $3.
Tickets are $5 at the gate. Children under 2 years of
age are admitted for free! Exit the 101 Freeway at Lost
Hills Road and follow the signs to the free
parking
and shuttles and the festival entrance.
The admission price includes all rides and carnival
games, a business district and fun zone, a car show, a
live music stage, and nature shows featuring live
reptiles! Delicious food and beverages will also be
available including a number of pumpkin-themed foods.

2010 ENVIRONMENTAL COLORING CONTEST |
|
The
Calabasas Environmental Commission is hosting an
environmentally themed drawing contest open to students
in elementary and middle schools. The contest is titled
"the Benefits of Electronic Waste Recycling” and
encourages students to submit hand-created drawings.
Drawings must be done on 8˝” x 11” format in landscape
orientation. Contest submissions are due to the City of
Calabasas, Environmental Services by Friday, October 29,
2010. Calabasas City Hall is located at 100 Civic
Center Way, Calabasas, CA 91302.
Fourteen winners will be chosen by the
Environmental
Commission on November 2, 2010 based on the creativity
and theme of their illustration. The winning drawings
will be printed in the 2011 City of Calabasas Community
Recycling Awareness calendar. The first place
drawing will be printed on the cover of the calendar and
each winner will receive a $25.00 gift certificate. For

CALABASAS CLASSIC 5K/10K
REGISTRATION UNDERWAY |

Registration
for the 2010
Calabasas Classic 5k/10k Runs
is up and running. The 7th Annual Calabasas
Classic will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2010 in
Calabasas on a scenic course that is certified and
sanctioned by USATF. The event will feature the
Brooks Paul Memorial 10k run, a 5k run and the
ZenSpa Family Fun Run. All participants will
receive a commemorative medal. The Calabasas
Classic also features an official
Expo with a number of local businesses, health
information, and a special
bone marrow drive.

SHERIFF'S STATION OPEN HOUSE ON
SEPTEMBER 25
(CANCELLED) |
The
Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station will hold
their annual Open House on Saturday, September 25,
2010 from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. There will be
displays and demonstrations by a number of
specialized police units. The Sheriff's
Department helicopter and police cars will be
available for participants to "sit in the drivers'
seat."
The Open House will also include emergency
preparedness information, with representatives from
local City emergency response teams. The
Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station is located at
27050 Agoura Road in Calabasas, on Agoura Road
between Lost Hills Road and Liberty Canyon. Free
parking is available at commercial buildings across
the street from the station. Please contact Deputy
Brownell at (818) 878-5506 for any handicapped
concerns or for special arrangements.

CALABASAS STUDY BUDDIES AND PEER COUNSELING
PROGRAMS AT THE LIBRARY |
|
The
2010-2011 Calabasas
Study Buddies Program begins on September 23. The program
helps Calabasas elementary and middle school students to get
free assistance with homework at the Calabasas Library. High
school students are available to help elementary and middle
school students with their homework and study skills.
Study Buddies is available on most Tuesdays and Thursdays from
3:30p.m. to 4:30p.m. in the
Calabasas Library
meeting room.
A
Peer Counseling Program for 9th through 12th grades will
also be available in the Young Adult area on Tuesdays and
Thursdays at the Calabasas Library beginning September 23.
High school students can drop in between the hours of 3:30pm to
5:30pm to get help on math, English, or the latest school
project.
The library is located at
200 Civic Center Way in Calabasas.

RECREATION BROCHURE |

The
2010 Calabasas Fall Recreation brochure is now available
online. As always, the brochure was mailed to all
Calabasas residents and extra paper copies are available at
City
Hall, the
Agoura/Calabasas Community Center and the
Calabasas Tennis and Swim Center.
The brochure features detailed information about adult and
youth classes, senior citizen programs, community news and
information, sports activities and much more.
Please
look for Enrichment classes and other after school programs
in the Recreation Brochure. The Calabasas paper
newsletter is also now included inside the Recreation
Brochure as a pull-out section.

KIDS BOOK CLUB AND AUTHOR JIM HARRIS AT THE

free Kids Book Club for 4th through 6th graders returns on
Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 4:00p.m. The September book is
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. Membership in the

Author and historian Jim Harris will be at the Calabasas Library on
Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 6:30p.m. to

E-WASTE
COLLECTION EVENTS & SCHEDULE CHANGE |

On
Saturday, September 11, 2010 there will be a free water
based paint and used oil collection event at Calabasas
City Hall (100/200 Civic Center Way (map)
adjacent to the Commons) from 10:00a.m to 2:00p.m.
Please note that effective after the September 11,
2010 event, the City of Calabasas is switching to
bi-monthly collections for paint and used oil.
There will be no paint and oil collection event in
October. After September 11, the next event will be on
Saturday, November 13, 2010.
The City of Calabasas organizes
two free monthly electronic waste collection events.
On the first Saturday of each month (Saturday,
September 4, 2010), an electronic waste collection will
take place at the
Albertson’s parking lot, 26521 Agoura Road (at Las
Virgenes Road)
in Calabasas from 10:00a.m to 3:00p.m. A second
monthly electronic waste event will take place on the
3rd Saturday of the month, September 18, 2010, in the
Vons Shopping Center parking lot at 23381 Mulholland
Drive in Woodland Hills from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Acceptable items include but are not limited to CD
players, laptops and personal computers, microwave
ovens, printers, radios, stereos, telephones, and VCR’s.

FALL SWIMMING LESSONS AT THE CALABASAS TENNIS
& SWIM CENTER |

Parents
in Calabasas can now register their children for 2010 fall
season swimming lessons. Lessons will begin on
September 11, 2010 for Saturday lessons and September 14,
2010 for Tuesday lessons.
Registration forms are currently available at the
Calabasas
Tennis & Swim Center.
Joe, the “Tiki Guy,” will be at the Swim Center to accept
registrations and answer phone calls on Tuesdays and
Thursdays only from 3:30p.m. - 6:30p.m and on Saturday,
September 11 from 9:30a.m. to 1:00p.m. Class space is
limited and the classes will fill-up quickly! For more

HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY FOR AGES 10-13 ON
OCTOBER 29 |

Calling
all Calabasas monsters, vampires and werewolves! The
City of Calabasas Recreation Department is hosting a
Halloween Costume Party for ages 10 to 13 on Friday, October
29, 2010 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. The party will
feature music, dancing, a costume contest and ghoulishly
tasty snacks. Please note that all Costume Party
attendees must wear a Halloween costume and inappropriate
costumes may be turned away at the door.
The Halloween Costume Party is taking place at Founders Hall
at the rear of the Calabasas Library (200 Civic Center Way
in Calabasas). Pre-register for the party before
October 25 and pay only $7 for admission. After
October 25, admission is $10 per person.
