SMART GARDENING
WORKSHOP IN CALABASAS |

The County of
Los Angeles will be holding a
Smart
Gardening workshop on Saturday, March 5, 2005 from 9 a.m. to 11
a.m. at
Gates Canyon Park in Calabasas.
Smart Gardening
techniques conserve water and energy, save time and money, improve
yards and gardens, recycle yard waste and kitchen scraps, reduce waste
going to landfills, and help preserve the environment. The
Countywide
Smart Gardening Program was started in 1994 by the County of Los
Angeles Department of Public Works to help meet the State of
California Integrated Waste Management Board's mandated goal of
reducing disposal of solid waste in landfills by 50%. For more

NEIGHBORHOOD PRESERVATION OVERLAY ZONE SURVEY |

In March, the City of Calabasas
Community Development Department will be
collecting data to determine if the City should develop a neighborhood
preservation overlay zone ordinance. Owners of single family
residences will receive a survey from the City asking for their ideas
and preferences on establishing special design guidelines and
standards which would preserve the overall character, design features
and massing of Calabasas neighborhoods like those in Calabasas Park
Estates and Mullwood. When residents receive the survey, they
will be directed to check back to the
City’s webpage for more information on the

CALL FOR ARCHITECTS, URBAN PLANNERS, AND DESIGNERS! |
|
The City
of Calabasas is seeking a volunteer to join the City’s Design Review
Panel. The Panel, which consists of three members and one alternate,
meets twice a month to review proposed projects. The Panel reviews and
evaluates site plans, architecture and landscaping to promote projects
consistent with City and neighborhood character. The qualifications
to be a Panel member include residence in or near the City of
Calabasas, or employment within the City; and the ability to read and
interpret architectural and site plan information. Panelists who
meet the criteria will be interviewed by the
Planning Commission and
selected candidates will be asked to make a two year commitment to the
position. If you are interested, please submit a letter of interest,
along with a resume, to Maureen Tamuri, Community Development
Director, Calabasas City Hall, 26135 Mureau Road, Calabasas, CA
91302. Applications will be accepted through March 31, 2005. |

TOPANGA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FUNDRAISER |
"Topanga
Tropics" is the theme for this years
Topanga Enrichment Program (TEP) Silent Auction, the annual party
that provides the whole community with an opportunity to have a great
time and support
Topanga
Elementary School.
The drinks and food will have an island-style theme and the
band
Urban Dread will provide a mix of reggae, calypso, and salsa
music. The event is on Saturday, March 5 from 6 p.m. to midnight at
the
Topanga Community House. Advance-purchase tickets are $45 and will
be available at school at 2:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays,
and 1:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tickets at the door will be

METHOD FILM FESTIVAL COMING TO CALABASAS IN APRIL |
|
The
City of Calabasas will host the 7th
Annual
Method Fest independent film festival on April 1-8, 2005.
Named after a famous school of acting, The
Method Fest is the only major film festival in the U.S. focusing on
acting, celebrating breakout acting performances in story driven
independent films. The
Method Fest Sneak Preview Party,
co-hosted by the Los Angeles Daily News, will take place on
Friday, March 4, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Pierce College's
Performing Arts Building Main Stage Theater located at 6201
Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills, California 91371. This is an
invite-only event but is open to anyone who purchases a Festival
Pass for full Method Fest access. Passes are available
for $175 and allow holders access to every Method Fest screening,

SUPERSTARS FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS GOLF CLASSIC |

The inaugural
SuperStars for Special Olympics Golf Classic golf tournament
will take place on Monday, March 7, 2005 at the
North Ranch
Country Club in Westlake Village. Participants will have the opportunity to golf with
"Hall of Fame" and legendary retired NBA players including Rick
Barry, Moses Malone, Ed Ratleff, Maurice Lucas, Darwin Cook, Sedric
Toney, Don
Ford, Duane Cooper and others. Actress
Penny Marshall, Los Angeles Councilman Dennis Zine and Los Angeles
Councilman Tony Cardenas are among the key supporters of the event
which will raise money for the Tri-Valley Special Olympics, the
Community Center Alliance, the John Wooden Special Needs Fund and
the L.A. Chapter of the Retired NBA. For more

CALABASAS EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROGRAM (CERP) OPEN HOUSE |

The Calabasas
Emergency Response Program (CERP) is holding its annual open house on April
18, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. at Calabasas City Hall. Join fellow
Calabasas residents and City staff in learning how to use a fire
extinguisher, make a family plan, and use the City’s Emergency
Operations Center (EOC). Vendors will be available with
emergency supplies for you and your family’s safety. For more

SCHOOL BUS SPRING SEMESTER REGISTRATION |
|
Calabasas
residents attending Calabasas public schools can still register for
school bus service. Applications are available
online and can be mailed to the address on the form or dropped off
at Calabasas City Hall. The cost is $99 per student per semester for
round-trip service and $65 per student per semester for one-way
service. Please note that this school bus registration is only
available to Calabasas residents and participating students must be
currently attending a public school in Calabasas. |

Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center will be offering free fitness
evaluation appointments with Synergy Performance on March 8, 2005 from
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Synergy Performance is a

HAZARDOUS WASTE ROUNDUP |
In
cooperation with the neighboring jurisdictions of Agoura Hills, Hidden
Hills, Malibu, and Westlake Village, Calabasas will be holding a
Hazardous Waste Roundup at
Calabasas City Hall on Saturday, March 12, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents can drop off used oil, oil filters, anti-freeze and latex
paint with no charge. Maximum amount accepted is 15 gallons or 125
pounds total per resident. Please note that waste from
businesses will not be accepted and the roundup will be cancelled in
the event of rain. More information is available on the

LAS VIRGENES SCHOOL DISTRICT FORUMS |

The
Las Virgenes Unified School District is holding a series of forums for
residents to learn about Las Virgenes schools and
discuss education issues with school administrators. Interim
Superintendent Donald Zimring will host the forums which will be held

Code Enforcement Office, part of the City of Calabasas
Building and Safety Division, may now be contacted during
non-business hours. The Code Enforcement Office handles violations of
the
Municipal Code. If
you have any conditions of an emergency nature, please contact the Los
Angeles County Sheriff office.
During regular business hours please
contact City Hall for referrals at (818) 878-4225. During
non-business hours please call (818) 518-3201. Please be
prepared with the following information: Your name, address and phone
number, violation address and the nature of the violation. Your call
will be handled in an appropriate time frame but in no case later than
the next business morning. |

provide extensive LIVE coverage of
election results on March 8, 2005 beginning at 8:30 p.m. when polls
officially close. This special
presentation will feature candidate interviews, in-depth election
analysis and up-to-the-minute election results. Results will
also be available
online throughout the evening.
