SNOW SNOW SNOW DAY |
Although the average
high temperature for early December in Calabasas is well over sixty
degrees, the forecast calls for a lot of snow to be on the ground for
"Snow Snow Snow Day" at
Gates Canyon Park on December 5, 2004. Between 11
a.m. and 1:30 p.m., thirty-five TONS of snow will be on the ground for
frolicking by children of all ages. Admission is only $5 per
child ages 2-12 and children under 2 are free! The mid-day event
will also feature refreshments, pictures with Santa, and arts &
crafts.

CALABASAS MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION |
The next
Municipal
General Election for the City of Calabasas will be held on
Tuesday, March 8, 2005, and the nomination period is almost over.
There are
three City Council seats to be filled and the term of
each seat is four years. The nomination period for these three City
Council seats closes on December 10,
2004. To hold an elected
office within the City of Calabasas, a person must be a
citizen of the
United States, 18 years or
older, and a registered voter of the City of Calabasas on the day
nomination papers
are
requested. The candidate begins
the nomination process by obtaining signatures on the nomination
paper. The nomination paper is furnished by the City Clerk’s Office
without charge to those applying for nomination and there is no

STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS - SAVE THE DATE! |

Mayor
Michael Harrison will present the City of Calabasas
7th Annual State
of the City address on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 in the Council
Chambers at Calabasas City Hall. The Calabasas Chamber of
Commerce will host a reception at 6 p.m. and the speech will begin at
7 p.m. Mayor Harrison will discuss the
accomplishments of the past year and lay out his vision for the year
ahead. Please save the date! |

METHOD FILM FESTIVAL COMING TO CALABASAS IN APRIL |
The
City of Calabasas is pleased to announce that it will host the 7th
Annual Method Fest independent film festival on April 1-8, 2005.
Named after a famous school of acting, the Method Fest is the only
major film festival in the U.S. focusing on acting, celebrating
breakout acting performances in story driven independent films.
Film
submissions are open both on the festival website (Film
Submissions) and through
www.withoutabox.com. The early deadline
for film submissions is
December 15, 2004 and the late deadline January 25, 2005.

ISRAELI FOLK DANCING AT AGOURA HILLS/CALABASAS COMMUNITY
CENTER |
As
part of an ongoing folk dancing series, the
Agoura Hills/Calabasas
Community Center will be hosting a special holiday celebration and
Israeli Folk Dancing night on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 7 p.m. at
27040
Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas. People of all backgrounds and
dancing experience are welcome to come and enjoy many popular Israeli
folk dancing numbers. Israel Yakovee will teach beginner and
intermediate dance levels until 9 p.m. and open dancing and
socializing will follow until midnight. Admission is $8.00 and

HOLIDAY CONCERT AT THE COMMONS |

The
Commons at
Calabasas and
The Calabasas
Shul will be hosting a Menorah lighting and holiday concert on
Thursday, December 9, 2004 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The
celebratory evening will feature live music, potato latkes
and doughnuts, fireworks and entertainment for the whole family. The event

TOYS FOR TOTS |
Toys
for Tots, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve program that has
distributed more than 313 million toys to 151 million children since
1947, is in the midst of their 2004 toy collection campaign. The
program, founded by Los Angeles residents Bill and Diane Hendricks,
accepts new, unwrapped toys valued at $10 or more at a variety
of Southern California drop-off locations. Toys for Tots also
accepts
donations by credit card and provides information about
vehicle donation. For more information about the Toys for

The
Las Virgenes Unified School District is holding a series of forums for
residents to learn about Las Virgenes schools and
discuss education issues with school administrators. Interim

FBI WMD COORDINATOR TO ADDRESS CERP MEETING |

FBI Special Agent Kristine
Beardsley, Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator for the Los Angeles
office of the FBI and a member of the Crisis Response Squad, will be
the featured speaker at the Calabasas Emergency Response Program
General Meeting on December 14, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at Calabasas City
Hall. Special Agent Beardsley will briefly explain the operations of
the FBI’s WMD program, discuss advance preparations citizens can make
to protect their families in case of emergency and briefly discuss
some chemical/biological agents of concern. She will also speak about
what volunteers should anticipate if Los Angeles becomes a victim of a
terrorist attack in the future. Refreshments will be served and

RUN & SHOOT WINTER BASKETBALL SUMMER CAMPS |
The
Agoura Hills/Calabasas
Community Center will be holding two separate, week-long winter
basketball camps for kids of all skill levels between ages 7-14.
Campers will receive quality instruction from qualified coaches such
as Darwin Cook (Former NBA player for the New Jersey Nets and former
college coach for Pepperdine and UNLV) and learn all of the basketball
fundamentals including passing, shooting, dribbling, and team
concepts.
There are two sessions
to choose from: December 20-24 and December 27-31, 2004 from 9 a.m.- 3
p.m. Camp ends at noon on Friday during both sessions. The
cost is $195 per week-long session or $55 per day. The camps
will be held at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community center gymnasium
at
27040 Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas. For more information

HOLIDAY FILM FESTIVAL |

Come
to the
Calabasas Library on Saturday,
December 18, 2004 and enjoy family films with fun and humor for the
holidays. Different movies will start at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

that no one under the age of 8 will be admitted without a parent or

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE AND E-WASTE ROUND UP |
The County of Los
Angeles Department of
Public Works is holding a "Too Toxic to Trash" Hazardous Waste and
E-Waste Round Up on Saturday, December 11, 2004 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. in the
rear parking lot of the Malibu Civic Center at
23519 West Civic Center
Way in Malibu. All Los Angeles County residents are invited
to bring and dispose of items such as brake fluid, paint, paint
thinner, turpentine, cleaners with acid or lye, pesticides or
herbicides, household batteries or car batteries, pool chemicals,
motor oil, oil filters, expired pharmaceuticals and waste antifreeze.
Household electronic waste, such as computer monitors, televisions and
computer parts, may also be dropped off. Please note that
business waste will not be accepted. For additional information
about household hazardous waste or to report illegal dumping, please
