COMPREHENSIVE VEHICLE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM |
|
The
City of Calabasas has a new plan to encourage kids to take the bus
to school as part of a city-wide
traffic reduction effort.
For
Calabasas residents, rates have decreased from $325 a semester to
only $99 per semester for daily roundtrip rides, with a one-way rate
of only $65. There is a $49 discounted
price for students that take the early bus. To make riding the bus a considerably
more enjoyable experience, there is now a maximum of two riders per
seat. Ten new buses have been added to Calabasas to facilitate
students’ comfort, as well as many new stops. Occasional chaperones
will ride the bus to monitor student behavior, and there will
be incentives to ride the bus such as free gift cards. With
the revamping of school bus transportation in Calabasas, the City
hopes to make the bus a fun, safe, and affordable way to get
students to school and alleviate morning traffic congestion.

NEW CIVIC CENTER PROJECT |
|
The Calabasas Civic Center project officially
kicked-off during the month of June! City Council has made the
project a top priority and appointed a Task Force to move it
forward. Under the charge of the Task Force, consisting of Mayor
Michael Harrison, Council Member Dennis Washburn, and Citizen Scott
Solomon, a project budget, schedule, and site plan were prepared and
approved by the City Council. Fields Devereaux Architects and
Engineers and Vanir Construction Management have been hired to
design and develop the project. The Civic Center will complete the
Park Center Master Plan and is programmed to contain a 23,300 square
foot Public Library, a 3,000 to 5,500 square feet Assembly Hall, and
a 26,000 square foot City Hall. City staff, including City
Manager Anthony Coroalles, Chief Financial Officer Gary Lysik, and
Community Development Director Maureen Tamuri, have been working
tirelessly on the project. Milestones accomplished in June and July
include: numerous design meetings, coordination/informational
meetings with City and County officials, and site plan refinement.
Work will continue through summer and finalization of the site plan
will occur with public presentations before the City Council. The
project is currently targeted for completion in September 2007. For

Las Virgenes Off-Ramp
Widening
Done!
The City’s Transportation/Intergovernmental Relations Department
just completed the construction on U.S. 101 Northbound off-ramp at
Las Virgenes Road. The widening project now accommodates one
dedicated left-turn lane, one left-turn/through lane, and a
dedicated right turn lane. The off-ramp was previously operating
at a Level-of-Service (LOS) D during peak a.m. traffic hours, but
now it is operating at LOS A. Now that this construction is
finally done, traffic flow should be much improved.

The Transportation/Intergovernmental Relations Department is
currently finalizing the installation of a traffic signal at Park
Ora/Valmar Road. Currently, the traffic signal poles and mast
arms have been installed along with the indicator heads. The

notices to property owners regarding clearance requirements, and due
dates for performing proper weed abatement. However, please also

Planning Department for local permitting
requirements on clearing certain types of vegetation particularly Oak
trees and Scrub Oak (shrubs), which are protected under the City’s

CARPOOL REGISTRATION WEBSITE |
|
Getting your kids to school has just been made
easier with the City’s new carpooling data list website. Now you
can set up a carpool through the school district with paper
applications that will be sent home to students on their first day
of school asking them or their parents to join a carpool list. We
have also created a new web-based application available on the
Transportation Department’s website at
Calabasas Carpool Survey to input the
carpool data list information. A carpool proximity list will be made
shortly after the beginning of school to give parents and students
who drive to school tools to create carpools and reduce
traffic on the roads. |

ANIMAL CONTROL CODE ENFORCED |
|
Please enjoy the
Bark Park during these leisure summer months, but also remember to
keep your dog on a leash at all times when you’re out and about in
our community and be cautious of rattlesnakes. The
City of Calabasas contracts with the
County of Los Angeles for animal control services. You may
receive a copy of the
Title 10 Animal Control Ordinance of Los Angeles County by
coming to
Calabasas City Hall.

Please be a
considerate pet owner and be sure to follow these two sections of
the ordinance:
1. Dogs shall be
kept on a six foot leash or chain when not enclosed within the
owner’s property.
2. Dogs must be
cleaned up after when not within the owner’s property.
You may report
any sick, injured or animal running loose (domestic or wild) by
calling the
Los Angeles County Department of Animal Control at
(818)991-0071.

complaints may only be filed in writing with the Department of
Animal Control. If you contact the animal control office, the form

WARNING FROM THE CONTRACTORS STATE LICENSE BOARD |
|
Homeowners, please be cautious when deciding
to be your own general contractor. As an “owner/builder,” you
(not the person you hire) assume responsibility for the overall
job. If a worker is injured while working on your property, you
could be asked to cover the medical costs. By signing a building
permit application as an owner/builder, you must understand that you
assume full responsibility for all phases of your project and its
integrity. When you hire a licensed, experienced contractor to
confer with knowledgeable tradespersons, the contractor becomes
responsible for all phases of construction. For more information,
please contact the
Contractors State License Board at (800)
321-CSLB. |
