AHMANSON RANCH

On October 1, 2003 Governor Gray Davis joined Calabasas, state and local officials to mark the state's purchase of the 2,960 acre Ahmanson Ranch property.  The land has been a source of conflicting visions since its purchase in 1992. Washington Mutual had planned to develop a housing/golf course project on the property which most locals and environmentalists hoped to preserve as open space.  After a ten-year rally against development by many high-profile celebrities and environmentalists aiming to preserve the land, and numerous lawsuits also stalling the project,  the land will be saved from development pending a final approval on October 10th. The Calabasas community and the City Council have been leaders in the fight to preserve this precious property.  Stay tuned for more news and information on this issue!

TALKING TRASH - Rain and Trash are not a Good Combination
October 15th is the official start of the rainy season and with Southern Californians gearing up for the rainy season, the City of Calabasas is asking its residents to remember basic tips to keep the storm drains clear of trash, litter and debris.  By doing so, you are doing your part to help prevent the pollution that is all too familiar to us here, in the San Fernando Valley.  Here are some helpful tips for you to note:  don’t litter our streets and parks, clean up after your dog, and reduce pesticide and fertilizer use.  To gain a better understanding of the entirety of this problem or to get your questions answered, please call (818) 878-4225 ext 293 for Robin Hull or 1(888) CLEAN-LA.
