This is a sight that we hate to see in Calabasas. On June 26th, a
small five acre fire was quickly contained by the Los Angeles County Fire
Department. It was a good reminder that fire season is here and extra
precautions need to be taken to decrease fire danger. See stories
below on the
fire, a controlled burn and programming on CTV3 with
information on fire prevention.

Fires Burning in Calabasas |
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any hotter out…fire season is here
folks. On June 25th, the Los Angeles County Fire Department,
along with several other agencies, conducted a 30-acre prescribed burn,
which is a planned and controlled fire, at the corner of Mulholland
Highway and Las Virgenes Road. The prescribed burn was intended to
“eradicate exotic and evasive plants that could fuel a brush fire and
provide for growth of native vegetation", explained Frank Padilla Jr.,
California State Parks Superintendent. However, the 5-acre blaze that
took place on the following day at the corner of Mulhollhand Highway and
Old Topanga Canyon at 12:15 p.m. was unexpected. The cause is
still being investigated, but the Los Angeles County Fire Department
contained the fire by 4 p.m. and no structures were damaged.
Nearby Creekside Klubhouse preschool was evacuated efficiently and no one was hurt.
The fires were a good reminder to make sure that you have properly
cleared brush from your property to decrease fire danger. If you
have questions about weed abatement please call the Los Angeles County
Fire Department at (213)317-1351. |
