THE CANDIDATES

FRED GAINES
Age: 56
Occupation: Calabasas City Councilmember

Calabasas is a great little City, and the most important job of a City Councilmember is to work hard to keep it that way.

  • Maintain high levels of Public Safety
  • Support our excellent Local Schools
  • Continue our leadership on Water Conservation and Environmental Issues
  • Serve as a Fiscal Watchdog

These have been our community priorities since the founding of our City, and these have been my priorities as your Mayor and City Councilmember these past four years.

But there are always areas where we can improve.  I will continue to work to:

  • Stop Over Development
  • Ensure Citizen Input in City government decision making
  • Acquire more Parks and Open Space
  • Improve Traffic bottlenecks
  • Enhance our Programs for Seniors and Children

And I will oppose any new City taxes.

I served for 12 years as a City Library Commissioner and as a Traffic and Transportation Commissioner.  I was Vice President of the Greater Mulwood Homeowners Association and am a long time member of the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce.  I am most proud of my work on the Calabasas Civic Center Task Force which directed the planning and construction of our beautiful City Hall and Library.

I am a practicing attorney with 29 years of experience in real estate and environmental law. I provide pro bono legal representation for the Mountains Restoration Trust and have successfully defended Calabasas open space from potential development.  I was also counsel for the Canyon Creek senior citizen housing project in Old Town Calabasas.

I am a Past President of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, Past Chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA), and a Director of the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging.

I am a 21 year resident of Calabasas.  Jill and I raised our three daughters here, Danielle (Northwestern '10), Stephanie (Colorado '12) and Allison (Cornell '14), and they are all Calabasas High School graduates.

I am proud to have the support of my fellow Calabasas City Council Members James Bozajian and David Shapiro, LVUSD School Board President Cindy Iser, and former Calabasas Mayors Dennis Washburn, Jonathon Wolfson, Bob Hill and Marvin Lopata.

Thank you for the privilege of being able to represent you on the City Council these past four years.  I would be honored to have your support once again.
