FRED GAINES                           Age: 51
Attorney/Calabasas Library Commissioner

Calabasas is a great little City, and the most important job of a City Council Member is to work hard to keep it that way.

  • Maintain high levels of public safety
  • Support our excellent schools
  • Continue our leadership on environmental issues

These have been our community priorities since the founding of our City, and these will be my priorities if I am fortunate enough to be elected to the City Council.

But there are always areas where we can improve.  I will work to:

  • Ensure open communication between our residents and our City government
  • Acquire more parks and open space
  • Improve traffic bottlenecks
  • Enhance our programs for children and seniors

And I will oppose any new City taxes.

I have served the City for the past 12 years as a City Library Commissioner and as a member of the Traffic and Transportation Commission.  I am a past Vice President of the Greater Mulwood Homeowners Association and a long time member of the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce.  I am most proud of my work on the Calabasas Civic Center Task Force which directed the planning and construction of our beautiful City Hall and Library.

I am a practicing attorney with 25 years of experience in property rights and environmental law.  Most recently, I provided pro bono legal representation for the Mountains Restoration Trust and successfully defended Calabasas open space from potential development.  I was also counsel for the new senior citizen housing project in Old Town Calabasas.

I am a Past President of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, Past Chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA), and a Director of the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging.

I am a 17 year resident of Calabasas.  Jill and I raised our three daughters (Danielle, Stephanie and Allison) here, and I now look forward to the opportunity to give back to the community as a member of our City Council.

I am proud to have the support of City Council Members Mary Sue Maurer, James Bozajian, Dennis Washburn, Jonathon Wolfson and Barry Groveman, Las Virgenes Unified School District Board Members Jill Gaines, Cindy Iser and Dave Moorman, and former Calabasas Mayors Bob Hill and Marvin Lopata.

I would be honored to have your support.  Please visit my website at  Thank you.
