Mary Sue Maurer
Occupation: Businesswoman/Parent/Education Commissioner
More than a decade
ago, my husband and I moved to Calabasas, choosing to raise our
family of
three boys here because of our city's location in the
beautiful Santa Monica Mountains, excellent
public schools and our
desire to live in a community with a small town feel.
I am running for the
Calabasas City Council because I believe Calabasas needs new
leadership
and fresh ideas to help our special city reach its full
potential. My background, long-time
involvement in and
knowledge of our community and my ability to get things done will
help me
make an immediate difference for all Calabasas residents.
On Election Day,
Vote For Mary Sue Maurer
My extensive
involvement in Calabasas includes:
Member, Calabasas
Education Commissioner and member since its inception
Vice President, Greater Mulwood Homeowners Association
Member, LVUSD Health Task Force
Volunteer with Boy Scout Pack 333
Co-Founder of "Middle School Now"
Field Deputy to Assemblymember Fran Pavley
Working for
Assemblymember Fran Pavley, I learned the importance of active
listening, as well as
valuable problem-solving techniques to
respond to complicated issues impacting our community.
My common sense,
results-oriented plan for Calabasas includes:
Traffic
Improvements: As Calabasas grows, we must do more to improve
traffic flow so our
neighborhood streets are safer for children
walking or biking to school as well as for all
residents.
Open Space
Preservation: The Santa Monica Mountains and Calabasas' rural
character makes
our city unique. As a leader of my
homeowners association, I know what needs to be done to
ensure
that any new project is carefully planned and includes ample
public notice and input.
Fiscal
Responsibility: I'll be a tough fiscal watchdog, scrutinizing the
use of our tax dollars as
closely as I do my family's finances.
My background in managing budgets for The Walt Disney
Company and
Blue Shield of California will enable me to closely scrutinize how
our tax dollars
are spent.
Educational
Opportunities: I will expand the partnership between the City and
LVUSD to ensure
that our schools are safe learning environments,
not overcrowded and have improved
recreational programs.
Business
Development: A healthy business community is essential for
Calabasas' future. I will
work closely with businesses to
create an environment that is good for business owners, good for
consumers and ultimately, good for our city.
