I was elected to the
Calabasas City Council in 1997, re-elected in 2001, and have
served twice as
Mayor. Previously, the City Council
appointed me to two terms on the Calabasas Community
Policing
Commission from 1993 to 1997.
I received a
Bachelor of Arts in History from UCLA, and graduated from USC Law
School. I
have been employed as a prosecutor at the Los
Angeles County District Attorney's Office since
1990. I am
currently serving my 13th term as an elected board member of the
Los Angeles
County Association of Deputy District Attorneys, and
was President in 1996 and 1997.
Calabasas has
enjoyed excellent financial health throughout its existence.
By prudently
managing fiscal resources, the City Council has
accumulated an impressive reserve fund of more
than $15 million.
With the help of innovative community policing initiatives, our
city's crime
rate remains low.
I have consistently
demonstrated my dedication to preserving our unique environment
and quality
of life by striving to control growth both in and
around Calabasas. I helped lead the successful
fight against
the Ahmanson Ranch development in 2003. The City Council has
purchased
hundreds of acres of strategically located property for
designation as permanent open space.
Calabasas began its
existence with but one neighborhood park. Today the city
boasts a diverse
array of 10 parks and recreational facilities.
We have made vast improvements to our roadways
in order to
alleviate traffic congestion and beautify our neighborhoods.
The city also operates a
growing network of shuttles and trolleys
to provide better public transportation services.
The City Council has
forged a strong relationship with the Las Virgenes Unified School
District
by establishing an Education Commission and an Education
Fund, and by adopting creative joint
use programs. I proudly
supported and campaigned for Measure R in 1997 and Measure E in
2004, both of which raised necessary funds to help maintain the
outstanding quality of our public
school system.
The city has worked
cooperatively with community leaders to bring appropriate private
enterprises to Calabasas, including The Commons, Gelson's Village,
and Creekside Village.
With the recent acquisition of an
$8.2 million grant for the construction of a new library, the City
Council is moving forward with plans to build the Calabasas Civic
Center.
I have enjoyed being
a part of the City Council for the past eight years. I
