Candidate Statement If you want someone who is open and honest, and who works hard and fights for what he believes in, and who will fight for you to improve our Calabasas quality of life, then I'm your candidate, and I would appreciate your support. I have the proven experience and commitment required for City Council. I have served on more Calabasas commissions than anyone else. According to the Acorn (11/25/99), "Harrison has long been considered one of Calabasas' leading environmentalists. He was also instrumental in creating the city's Tree Board and has been a driving force for change on the Environmental Commission." As a member of the Planning Commission, I have spearheaded the drives against overdevelopment on Las Virgenes Road (Canyon Hills), and the Aronoffs' misplaced ridgeline fantasy. I have worked tirelessly for the enforcement of existing rules and specific plans. On a regional level, I am a delegate to the Las Virgenes Homeowners' Federation, and I helped draft the North Area Plan and the water-efficient landscape ordinance. Since graduating from UCLA School of Law in 1976, I have practiced business law and estate planning. For 8 years I served as a city prosecutor for environmental and other code violations. I have also adjudicated over 200 cases for the American Arbitration Association and the NASD. I would like to revive the "Run for the Hills" event, and establish family-oriented activities on New Year's Eve. I will work to implement a no-cost sister-city program and a foreign student exchange. Having two children in public schools, I am motivated to improve communications with the school district, and establish more cooperative ventures, such as after-school playground use. Concerned citizens and homeowners' associations across the city are supporting me. I've also been endorsed by "smart-growth" developers sensitive to community needs, such as Rick Caruso (the Commons), and Ric Capretta, who wrote the following: "You can count on my support for your City Council candidacy in Calabasas. When I dealt with you on the Creekside Village project [the Albertson's center], you were candid and forthright. I appreciated your input regardless of whether we agreed. Your input was valuable and helped make a better project for the City." Now I need your support, too. Please help me protect our Calabasas quality of life.
