American Cinema uses clips from more than 300 of the greatest movies ever
made to immerse the viewer in film history and American culture through
the eyes of over 150 Hollywood insiders. In-depth treatments present film
as a powerful economic force, potent twentieth-century art form, and
viable career option. The series connects subjects such as history,
business, and English with other studies. The thirteen episodes provide an
extensive look at, among other things, the interrelationship between
television and cinema, film school directors, the old Hollywood studio
system, and analysis of the romantic, noir, combat, and western
genres. American Cinema is made available to CTV through Annenberg
