This blood drive is being held in support of Calabasas resident Mary Solis.

Mary is the founder of Calabasas Cares, a program held to support the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles Literally Healing program that provides books for patients and families of CHLA. Mary has a genetic bone condition called multiple hereditary exostoses in which painful lumps develop on the bones. Her son Joshua has the disease as well and she discovered the Literally Healing program while Joshua was being treated at CHLA.

Mary developed a rare chondrosarcoma tumor on her spine which metastasized to her lungs. In January 2016 the tumor was removed at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and she has been undergoing rounds of chemotherapy to treat her lungs since. She has undergone many blood transfusions during her lengthy hospital stays.

Mary and her husband Anthony have three young children (Two at Chaparral Elementary School and one at AC Stelle Middle School) and this blood drive is a way for the community to show support for the family and the amazing medical team at Cedars Sinai that has treated many in the Calabasas community.
